Why move?

Sydney Bus and Truck Museum Ltd has occupied the oild Tempe Tram Sheds since 1986 under a lease from the NSW State Transit Authority. The lease expired in 2006, at a time when the STA had decided to re-open the Tempe site as a new depot for new red buses running on the Metro cross Sydney services.
A well established bus Museum filled the heritage-listed sheds which are in very poor condition. So after some head-scratching, which included the possibility of refurbishing the Tempe Sheds,the STA management made the Museum an offer of a lease over the old Leichhardt Tram Sheds adjacent to the brand-new Leichhardt Bus Depot.
